Zachary Scott Miller
February 22, 2008 – 12:59pm
The day our lives were changed. Zach was born, and we were blessed with a happy, healthy baby weighing 8lbs 10 oz. and 21 1/4inches long. It was day one, and we had a front row seat to watch this little boy grow and evolve into the son, grandson, cousin, best friend, classmate, and team mate that he would later become. Zachary grew into the kid that everyone wanted to be friends with; he was a leader not a follower. He knew to make “good choices” and be loving, kind, respectful, honest, caring and giving to everyone no matter what their situation was. He had a heart as good as gold and an infectious smile that he always wore. May 22, 2018 The day our lives changed forever. We were on what we had called “The Perfect Vacation” in Montcalm, WV. This was Zachary’s favorite yearly vacation spot. The day started like any other vacation day, waking with no alarm clocks and the bright sun gleaming through the RV blinds. As we had breakfast, Zach was eager to get to riding! He was in his riding gear, sitting on his 4 wheeler and ready to go by 10:30 AM. He was as happy as could be even singing one of his favorite songs: Baby, lay on back and relax, kick your pretty feet up on my dash No need to go nowhere fast, let's enjoy right here where we at… “Who knows where this road is supposed to lead We got nothing but time As long as you're right here next to me, everything's gonna be alright… If it's meant to be, it'll be, it'll be Baby, just let it be If it's meant to be, it'll be, it'll be Baby, just let it be So, won't you ride with me, ride with me? See where this thing goes If it's meant to be, it'll be, it'll be Baby, if it's meant to be…” The rest of us finished getting ready and we were headed out by 11am, toward the town of Ashland. Scott and Zach had communicators in their helmets so that they could talk and Scott could warn of obstacles ahead. We reiterated the importance of making sure you drive to right, especially on the blind corners. We stopped once for a quick break and headed to get a picture at Wrong Turn Pizza at the top of the mountain. As we headed down the mountain road, Zach had said that it had started to rain to Scott. Scott agreed with him and said, “I think your right buddy.” He replied that he was gonna have to stop and put his poncho on. Scott told him “No problem, we will stop at Ashland and get our rain gear on.” As Scott said that to him, he could see the sign to Ashland resort – We were literally that close! As Scott turned right into the resort, he checked his rear view mirror, and Zach wasn’t behind him. He called for Zach on the communicator, but there was silence. As he got turned around and looked back up the hill, he could see his 4 wheeler and Trilla’s side by side sitting along the edge of the road. Scott figured he stopped to put his poncho on, but it just didn’t make sense why he would stop right there. As Scott arrived on the scene, that’s when he realized things were much worse. As Trilla tipped the 4 wheeler over and screamed he’s not moving! 11:45 AM 911 Call for Help! Followed by Zach and Trilla’s first Ambulance ride. We were headed to Bluefield Regional Medical Center, hoping for a miracle. 1:34 PM The unthinkable, the unimaginable. We were told what we had already known, but didn’t want to admit. Zachary was no longer with us. How do we move on from this, where do we go from here??!! We knew deep down in our hearts that Zachary was having fun and loved life to the absolute fullest for the 10 years and 3months he was with us. He had a passion for riding, football and art. You could see that in his smile. So we will do our best to keep going with a life just as full as it was only missing the part of our hearts he was in and make him proud with our new mission in life - Zingers for Zach!!! May 23, 2018 “Zingers for Zach” Friends mention to their boys at a baseball game – hit a “Zinger for Zach” June 22, 2018 Zingers for Zach non-profit organization kicks off! What started as a simple saying to hit a homer has evolved into a community driven non-profit organization to help youth have the chance to play in a sport or attend a camp. Zachary always wanted to help anyone he could and wanted everyone outside all the time. Zingers for Zach is a non-profit organization that is in memory of our son, Zachary Scott Miller. This organization is for Children to the age of 18 in need of financial support to play in a sports related activity. Zachary loved sports and anything that had to do with the outdoors. The support can be as little as suppling cleats, bats, balls, uniforms, helmets, mouthguards, and pads up to helping to pay for a camp or registration fee. -Scott and Trilla Miller- |
